Who are we ? We are a network of Francophone organizations and people, passionate and committed to holistic mission. We believe that practical action is needed to transform the physical, social and spiritual community.
The French association of international solidarity (RESCoF) is now a leading proponent in the Francophone Community Health Education Program (CHE.)
We are interconnected with many people, organizations, and associations for mutual support to share useful ideas and best practices, to encourage one another, to coordinate efforts, and to create and optimize resource use.
What is the CHE program ?
CHE ("Community Health Education") is also called in French “ESC”
The CHE program is under the direction of the association RESCoF, for French speaking countries. There is a worldwide association of groups that use the CHE strategy called the Global CHE Network. (www.chenetwork.org). It includes Medical Ambassadors International (MAI), which compiled most of the English CHE lessons circulated between 1990 and 2011, and has helped many organizations through consultation and training in CHE. (www.medicalambassadors.org)
CHE is a model of holistic community development. Born in Africa in the 1980s, the CHE program was then extended to other continents and it proved to be suitable for a wide range of situations.
The goal of CHE
Its main purpose is to assist communities wishing to establish a sustainable community development program in their midst. CHE provides support in training, planning, and bringing the community to own the program. It also assists the community to evaluate their performance, in the projects it plans.
How ?
- Training of trainers in the form of seminars. The teaching method is participatory.
- Provision of teaching materials related to various fields : health, education, agriculture, etc.
The CHE program is developed in a community or region through training of trainers and volunteer home visitors called CHEs [VCHEs], who track the projects and training in the villages where the program is being implemented.
The CHE strategy is now used in over 125 countries by NGOs, associations, government ... allowing entire communities to break the cycle of poverty.
It is a simple yet comprehensive approach, adaptable to a wide range of settings whether urban or rural.
The essence of CHE is to make the complex become simple, and the theoretical become practical. People who complete their training CHE often say “That makes sense. We can do it ! "
